Club Lago (lake in Italian) has been a piece of "real Chicago" since 1952. Original owners Gus and Ida Lazzarini came from Lucca, Italy, near Florence, and decided to invest their savings and open this authentic Italian restaurant on Superior and Orleans.The couple originally opened the restaurant to appeal to the WW II servicemen who were stationed in Italy and had vivid memories of the food. Today, grandsons GianCarlo and Guido carry on the family tradition started decades ago. Hollywood even appreciates Club Lago - scenes in the Robert DeNiro-Bill Murray film "Mad Dog and Glory" were filmed here.
The Northern Italian menu, which lists such favorites as baked clams, eggplant parmigiana, lasagna, veal saltimbocca, chicken cacciatore and scampi Italiani, changes according to the day of the week and what's fresh at the market.
