The Celtic Knot Public House: User Reviews
The Celtic Knot Public House
626 Church St. - Evanston847-864-1679
Great place to unwind and have a few after a long week. Everything that I've tried from the food menu has been great too. The staff is accomodating. If you want dinner, it can be hard to get a table right away on weekends so I recommend making a reservation. otherwise, sit at the bar or one of the cozy window seats. If your not in evanston, it's worth making the trek. If you want a beer and some sloppy junk bar food, there are loads of places in wrigleyville and rogers park and elsewhere but for real quality AUTHENTIC Irish food and atmosphere try the Celtic Knot.
Report This ReviewI came back to Evanston for a Kellogg reunion and walked to this place from our hotel. The choice of beers and drinks were excellent. Other thing bothered me. The live music was annoying, like amateur hour or American idol. Food was so so. I live in downtown Chicago now and there are better Irish bars with better food.
Report This ReviewThe place is a cozy (if your sitting at the bar) pub. The staff is friendly and the food is good. No good deserts though.
I'd recommend getting a root beer, (Abita Root Beer) a side salad and fish 'n chips.
Report This ReviewThis is far and away the best Irish/English style Pub in the Chicago area. The food is wonderful, the Guinness is at least tied for the best that I've had in the U.S., and the staff is refreshingly adult. I had read a couple of reviews on this site that nearly turned me away until I realized that 3 of the last 5 bad reviews were written by the same guy. I decided to write this review after having been there a couple of times and realizing that metromix almost turned me away from this haven away from the onslaught of evanston sports bars. Don't let it happen to you! Thanks to the Celtic Knot for bringing such a charming local spot to Evanston and for being above the ignorant rants that anonymous metromixers are too often allowed.
Report This ReviewI just dont get this place. The bar is good but they have terrible live music. Its like a bunch of high school music teachers trying to have a jam session. It would be nice if the music level is down, but its really loud and annoying. The bar has a nice selection of beers. The foodis mediocre at best. I prefer Pete Miller's or Davis Street if Im eating.
Report This ReviewI rarely comment on a bad experience but I have to mention my lastest outing to Celtic Knot. Terrible. It wasnt crowded but the waitress was slow and not attentive. Other than the burger (real Irish food?) the food was very mediocre. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips and there was too much batter which made the fish undercooked in some areas. The manager basically ignored us.
Report This ReviewI just graduted from DePaul. Lakeview has better Irish bars like Vaughn's and Mystic Celt. I moved to Evanston for my first job but was really kind of disappointed in the atmosphere of the bar. The layout needs to be a little more updated so people can mingle. Food is so so. Drinks are good but the layout and decor is strange, at best.
Report This ReviewThe bartender is really nice, I go there are a few times a week if Bar Louie is crowded.
I could do without the music. Its just a little too loud to carry a conversation. Perhaps a nice stereo and ipod would be better than amateur hour in the dining and bar area.
Report This ReviewNice bar area but the food is average
Report This ReviewIve lived on the North Shore for a long time. I went there with some Kellogg grads and we were disappointed with the food and service. We loved going there for drinks on Friday, but dinner was completely disappointing. We ordered a variety of dishes. The fish and chips were OK, but the grilled salmon was NOT grilled. Service was slow even though it wasnt bus. The manager shrugged his shoulder and said this is bar (public house) food.
