I just dont get this place. The bar is good but they have terrible live music. Its like a bunch of high school music teachers trying to have a jam session. It would be nice if the music level is down, but its really loud and annoying. The bar has a nice selection of beers. The foodis mediocre at best. I prefer Pete Miller's or Davis Street if Im eating.

I rarely comment on a bad experience but I have to mention my lastest outing to Celtic Knot. Terrible. It wasnt crowded but the waitress was slow and not attentive. Other than the burger (real Irish food?) the food was very mediocre. My boyfriend ordered the fish and chips and there was too much batter which made the fish undercooked in some areas. The manager basically ignored us.

I just graduted from DePaul. Lakeview has better Irish bars like Vaughn's and Mystic Celt. I moved to Evanston for my first job but was really kind of disappointed in the atmosphere of the bar. The layout needs to be a little more updated so people can mingle. Food is so so. Drinks are good but the layout and decor is strange, at best.

The bartender is really nice, I go there are a few times a week if Bar Louie is crowded.
I could do without the music. Its just a little too loud to carry a conversation. Perhaps a nice stereo and ipod would be better than amateur hour in the dining and bar area.

Ive lived on the North Shore for a long time. I went there with some Kellogg grads and we were disappointed with the food and service. We loved going there for drinks on Friday, but dinner was completely disappointing. We ordered a variety of dishes. The fish and chips were OK, but the grilled salmon was NOT grilled. Service was slow even though it wasnt bus. The manager shrugged his shoulder and said this is bar (public house) food.

I just love your place. Great atmosphere at the bar. Storytelling nights are wonderful.
Congratulations to you both.

When you walk in the Celtic Knot you feel the traditional pub atmosphere at the cramped bar (due to a thin pass through which diners must squeeze to get to their table). The dining room is a little too bright, taking away from the traditional Irish pub feel. The menu features a large array of British food including fish and chips and bangers and mash. The potato soup is good, especially on those cold winter days. The fish and chips are very average- pretty good texture and taste, although the batter coating separates too easily, making it hard to eat together, which detracts from the overall crunchy and moist texture desired in a batter-fried fish. Also the steak sandwich and other sandwiches are of typical pub quality. However, for this average quality, the food is a bit overpriced. Overall, a solid pub feel, still probably the best that Evanston has to offer.

Having grown up in Boston and traveled north America (and Ireland) on business I've been to my share of Irish pubs and The Knot is simply wonderful. Fantastic bartenders, friendly (and hilarious) hosts, perfectly poured drinks, superb pub food. And a lively and friendly clientèle mix, too. Simply put, The Celtic Knot served up one of the best times out I've had while traveling on business in years. Very highly recommended -- and VERY visitor-friendly. A must-try.

Even though this place is always busy we are still treated like gold! What a compliment it is to say we feel like this is still our little secret.
