Ta'Too

Can a Scots-Irish bar be sexy? Believe it or not, that's the vibe at Ta'Too, a bordello-red, new "public ale house" from the owners of Southport Avenue's Hye Bar. Painted red inside and out, Ta'Too is hard to miss. The 42-foot-long, 15-foot-high, red mahogany copper-topped bar is inset with two plasma flat-screens in ornate metal frames. When the TVs aren't tuned to ESPN, as they were the night we visited, a virtual fish tank plays in homage to the 300-gallon salt-water tank over at Hye Bar. Rounding out the seductive look are gilded mirrors hanging over high tables and chairs, some exposed brick and large chandeliers with alabaster fixtures. The single-occupancy loos, retro cash registers and copper tip pots are a nice touch. A trio of flags-two Scottish, one Irish-are also on the way. One drawback: We would have preferred more tables and seating, but as it is, there's plenty of room for standing. There are twelve taps ($3.75-$5) including Guinness, Magners and Smithwick's. Cocktails start at $4. The wine list includes Chilean house fave Big Tattoo Red and glasses are between $4-$6. A more extensive list is in the works.
