Rude, Inconsistant Service, Would not go back
By Irish Girl from Gold Coast, July 3, 2008

Overall rating:

I've been twice. The first time I called ahead to make sure it wasn't closed for a private party during the holidays. They said no, come on in. When we get there (8 of us) a sign on the door said "closed for private party". They said we could have a table for 30 minutes & kept dropping by to tell us so. The 2nd time was worse. We were ready to give it another chance. We were meeting some people and 2 of us went to the outdoor seating & pulled a table next to another. The Hostess appears confrontationally & asks if she can help as she abruptly pulls the table back. I looked at my friend & said, I guess they are always rude here. She replied, & this is no lie. "Do you always rearrange the furniture at the restaurants that you go to? We consider that rude." We told her that we had 10 people & she said she could pull some tables together on the sidewalk but not on the patio because it was too crowded. We would have left but 8 other people were meeting us so we went inside & spoke with the Manager. He was professional & said he would speak with her and that it would be smooth sailing after that. Where was our apology? We were just called rude by a hostess because we tried to move a metal table with no glass or silver on a half empty patio in questionable weather. It was not smooth sailing. We asked about specials, & were told there were none only to find out before it ended about the happy hour food specials. 6 people ordered food & we had to ask for napkins & silver & the waiter forgot one girl's wine. We reminded him 20 minutes later. The Manager did check on us & the waiter was cordial. The food was good but it usually is at Irish Pubs. They really need to lighten up, after all, it is an Irish Pub (upscale or not) not fine dining. People want to relax and enjoy themselves at Irish Pubs. As we were leaving, we walked past the patio and the tables we tried to move were pulled together with 8 people.

We went to D4 on Friday and Jessie, our waitress, was awesome. She went above and beyond with exceptional service. The manager also called ahead to our next bar so they would be expecting us! Had a table waiting for us when we got there. Unbelievable! Thanks guys!

D4 - I'M A HUGE FAN of this pub
By Francesca from Streeterville, April 5, 2008

Overall rating:

I can give anyone reason to stop by Streeterville's hottest spot... for those of you who haven't been to D4 yet, here's my list of the goods:

- BAR TYPE: Traditional, modern, classy Irish bar w/o a pretentious feel (definitely not cheesy and touristy, like Fado)

- IMPRESSIVE, substantial BEER MENU including Beamish, Trumer Pils and varieties of Chimay (menu also states alcohol content in every beer!)

- FOOD is consistently excellent. Must try the Burgers, Filet Mignon entre, Blackened Salmon salad, Fish and Chips and Pulled Pork Sliders (It's all delicious!) Bread pudding is also very tastey...

- PRICES - food AND drink very reasonably priced, esp for the Streeterville area

- STAFF - adorable and attentive. Owner of the bar is very charming, truly dedicated to his patrons

- CROWD TYPE - attractive young professionals (esp after work), locals from the neighborhood

- AFTER WORK CROWD consists of employees from NBC Tower, PLAYBOY, CBS News, AON Corp., and other companies in the area

- GREAT PLACE if you're single, going on a date, with a group of friends, or solo... a cozy place to bring ma & pa, even nana : )

- MUSIC TYPE - Rock, Classic, Top 40, (good song selections)

- BAR ATMOSPHERE is lofty and spacious, 2 fireplaces, hd tvs, plenty of seats at the bar (w/hooks for girls' purses :) I must add that the bathrooms are very clean!

- OUTDOOR SEATING - yes, there will be ALFRESCO dining! I saw them setting up the tables and chairs today.

**OVERALL, really an impressive establishment...I have yet to find another pub that compares to the class and quality of D4's service, atmosphere, beer selection and food. (The house wine is excellent.)**

Overall, pretty good

I work close to D4, so I've been to it for lunch, after work, and dinner. Overall, I like the place, think it is pretty nice. The big, round table/couch is really cool looking. Some of the staff are much better than the rest. The corned beef sandwich is amazing, the soups are a little "thin" in terms of thickness and substance. The only real negative I have is the portion on the corned beef on St Pattys was really light, especially for $18 or $19. At least load me up with some cabbage or soda bread. I won't take them off my list over it, so I'll be back for a Tetleys after work.

Really Classy Clientele

I go between Chicago and New York City for work. I visited other bars in the area and D4 is my spot. On my second visit, not only did the bartender Tony remember me he also rembered what I drink. Great open impressive space. I plan to bring clients here for meetings. Slightly quiet in there but the bartender says it picks up the closer it gets to friday. Perfect for a the S.W.F. thirtysomething like myself! See you at D4!

Warm pub atmosphere and food
By WrigleyWorldSeries from Streeterville, March 4, 2008

Overall rating:

I've visited D4 twice now, once for dinner on a Saturday night and once for a weekday lunch. Both times the food was very good and drink list extensive. The first time I visited I tried the potpie, which the waiter cautioned would take a few extra minutes, but it was worth it. A light flaky crust and good mix of veggies and chicken inside. My friends had bangers & mash and the fish & chips, both said they were very good. We sampled a few of the many draft beers, including a few that we hadn't seen at other pubs in the city. Service was a just a little too relaxed and perhaps a bit slow, the only reason its four out of five stars for me. Will visit again.

Awful

Metromix, why oh why are you letting advertising dollars sway your opinion?
I don't know a single person that has gone to D4 and enjoyed it. Tourists and recent suburban transplants don't count.

This place is authentic as Lucky Charms.

own fashion on the new scene
By redsoxnavy from out of towner, January 27, 2008

Coming into Chicago for a brief visit it recommended to me that I stop into D4 at least once. What a recommendation it was!!!!!!! I can best describe it as old time fashion with a smooth blend of "the now". It's a scene that can be both upscale and relaxed, for major parties or just a quick lunch, and by that I mean a guinness. The food is fantastic, featuring some recipes not found in many other establishments, i.e. "bangers and mash". Anyone looking for a great time must consider D4 in their choices. From the service staff to the food quality and drink choices to the atmosphere D4 is the place to be. . . slainte!!!

Great Neighborhood Spot - Best Pulled Pork Sandwich
By K84 from Streeterville, January 12, 2008

Overall rating:

We've been to D4 several times for dinner and drinks. Great beer selection and cocktails. You must try the the Pulled Pork Sandwich...or at least the Mini Pork Bites (smaller version of the sandwich). Don't try to be healthy - get the french fries, it's worth it. D4 also has good pizzas and decent salads. I would avoid the brownie dessert---only item we've been disappointed with thus far.
