Brunch at D4 Irish Pub & Cafe

Fans of Irish bars will know the duo behind this Streeterville pub and cafe; Brendan McNeill ran the show at the Emerald Isle for years, and he and partner Debbie Zalesiak were involved with both Lizzie McNeill’s Irish Pub and Bridget McNeill's. Their new project, located on the ground floor of The Streeter, is named after the tony zip code Dublin 4, (McNeill hails from Ballsbridge, which is in the D4 zip).

The interior of the pub boasts brass chandeliers, high leather banquettes, two fireplaces, a handcrafted bar made of English oak, plus a high-backed, rounded booth for group dining. D4 not only has the look of a modern Dublin pub, but it has a piece of Irish history: Owners got their hands on a rare copy of The Book of Kells and will have it on display (tourists flock to Dublin's Trinity College to sneak a peek at the lavishly illustrated original).

Look for a menu of modern favorites with Irish flair, like house-smoked salmon with Irish soda bread, Prince Edward Island mussels in Guinness garlic cream sauce, lamb stew with Stilton dumplings and custard berry trifle. Drink list highlights include a lineup of domestic and imported craft beers, plus ample Irish whiskey and single malt Scotch selections.

While the food at D4 is good, the service leaves much to be desired. They just don't care about their customers. I went with a large group and we...

I went there with my wife last night for dinner. It's nice to have an upscale Irish pub just off Michigan Ave where you can sit outside on the pat...

"Surprisingly good"

By streetervillediner from streeterville, May 1, 2009

Who would expect to find shrimp and grits at an Irish pub? But they were delicious. I hope they never take this off the menu.
