The Call
1547 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. - Chicago773-334-2525
This bar has completly botched it. First, country music is now only on Tuesdays and the other nights it is simply uneven and awful dance music. Not good for a country bar. Second, dance floor is too small for either 2-stepping or line dancing and is awkwardly placed in the middle of the bar with little room to maneuver around it. Third, both bars are too small and don't have any stools. Seating is only at tables, so forget about socializing with strangers and making new friends. Fourth, the bartenders look like they are barely of drinking age. Sorry, but I was kind of hoping for some Tim McGraw lookalikes or at least someone who needs to shave more than once a week. Fifth, and in a RECESSION most important, a Heineken costs $5.75 compared to $4.00 at Sofo. Yes, for every two beers I get at Cattle Call, I could get not quite three elsewhere. On the plus side, there is plenty of parking within a block and you can easily bar crawl to @tmosphere, Stargaze, Mary's Attic/Rec Room, Charlie's Ale House, T's and Sofo. But it's probably best to just skip this sad place and go directly to one of those other bars. This place will not make it to New Year's. The owners have completely misread the Andersonville/Edgewater crowd, which is really a shame because a clean country bar with a decent dance floor and good music would do well in the neighborhood. Something tells me the owners don't know country either.
Report This ReviewNew gay bar sorta gettin it's vibe goin in Andersonville.
Nice layout to the bar, needs an in house DJ, and to turn down the lights a bit after 8pm.
Not heavily crowed, but it's eclectic (softball players, to twinks, to middle-aged)
Could use some more artwork inside (like nude cowboyz)!!!
Easy to miss, just west of Clark & Bryn Mawr.
Glad to see a new bar in the "real gayborhood" of Chicago.
The bleek facade barfront needs a neon window sign of some sort and maybe some pop art of gay cowboys or just a strand of cattle call (cowboy hat) logos!
Place definitely needs an in house DJ, as the music is hit or miss.
Cattle Call will defintely do well, once more gay boyz find out of its existence.
Just visited CC for the fourth time. Each time has been a different days. The latest visit on Friday would be the example of them still working on the concept. Not a huge fan of country, but when they advertise dance/pop on Friday I thought it would be a chance to dance a little and enjoy some great music. We arrived and there was a nice crowd going, but could use a few more people. Everyone was just standing around and it seemed like everyone was bored. After being there 20 minutes i could see why. The music was not good. I believe they should hire someone professionally that knows how to control the vibe through a great music playlist. Once they started to play some current and old favorites the dance floor filled up, unfortunately they only played a couple of songs before throwing an odd ball in. Again clearing the dance floor. Second item I hope they work on is the drink prices. The drink prices on are the high side, about a buck too high. The place is new so its a nice setup. Hopefully with time they'll be able to work out some of the issues.
Report This ReviewThe music is terrible!! I am not a fan of country but I will admit that there are some decent NEW songs that are out there. You wont hear them here. Expect to hear music recorded before 1995 and some of the most hideous as well. The bar has a stupid layout with the dance floor in the middle and two bar areas on both sides. Not that anyone is dancing. I will say that the staff is nice and welcoming but over all this place is not worth the trip.
Report This ReviewI wasn't sure what I was getting myself into going to a place named "Cattle Call" with a group of friends, but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a big fan of country music, but they played a variety and the country they played I really enjoyed. The atmosphere is pretty similar to other bars in Lakeview, but at least this bar had CLEAN women's restrooms, which I appreciate. I met two bartenders, Mark and Michael, that were really friendly and even remembered what I was drinking. Those simple things are what make a great bar and I will be returning! :)
Report This ReviewThe staff is extremely rude and the atmosphere a little to sterile. Definitely take a pass on this place. It's a dive bar without the character.
Report This Revieweagerly anticipated the opening
great location
nicely decorated but a bit too brightly lit for a bar
very disappointed by the size and location of the dance floor
sound system a bit muffled
bartenders will probably get better
but i gave up trying to get a drink
hope this place makes it
