This new addition to downtown Evanston's restaurant scene combines the relaxed charm of a wine bar with an adventurous menu. One look at the warm, urban interior will tell you owners Victor Hernandez and Victoria Fonseca are serious about wine. A dozen mahogany wine racks near the front door contain more than 240 varieties from all over the globe, ranging in price from $25 to $250 a bottle. Quaffers also have 32 by-the-glass choices, plus 12 varieties of three-glass sampler flights. (The bar also pours Belgian ales, ports and scotches.) There are a dozen appetizer options, from traditional cheeses and pates to foie gras BLT sandwich and grilled rack of lamb with white truffle creme brulee. Hearty entrees include roasted Amish chicken and grilled pork tenderloin.
