Acclaimed chef Shawn McClain (Spring , Green Zebra ) applies his seasonal sensibilities at Custom House in the South Loop's Hotel Blake, using local and farm-raised products whenever possible. The frequently changing menu may include appetizer choices like roasted quail, charred sashimi-style sirloin and marinated shrimp. Entrees may include diver sea scallops, beef short ribs and bone-in filet of beef. Lunch features a mix of fancy salads, hearty main courses like prime sirloin, organic chicken, and a steak sandwich, and risotto, an artisinal cheese selection and more. The restaurant takes its name from the Custom House Levee District (the area now known as Printers Row), best remembered as a turn-of-the-century hotbed of saloons, bordellos, gambling parlors and pawnbrokers instead of ritzy condos, bars and restaurants.
