Went to dinner last night with two other couples, 6 people in total. We were the first to arrive, and were taken care of promptly... our drinks came quickly. However, after the other two couples arrived, it was at least 10-15 minutes before we saw our server, and they were never offered drinks. The 6 of us had plenty to talk about, so it didn't seem like forever, but all the while, they were without drinks. We then ordered three bottles of wine because it was 1/2 price bottle night, which was a great incentive. When the first bottle arrived (sparkler) we had plenty of time to look at the menu, yet it was another 10 minutes before we had to ask another server that we were ready to order. The second bottle of wine arrived, and shortly after, the first course of soup. The entrees came in a very reasonable time as well, with the last bottle. Entrees were very good. As the evening wrapped up, I was presented with the check, and asked the server if he could split the check by the items for each couple, and he told me he could get it as close as possible, but it would be difficult. ??????? I could have split the items for him, but I said this was fine, and to then split the check three ways, however, one couple and I wanted to treat the other couple to the wine, so I told the server to split the check 40%, 40%, 20%, and I handed him the card to which the 20% would be on. He again told me he would get it as close as possible. ??????? After we left, we realized that he put the 20% on the wrong card (which was not even close to 20%, but at this point we didn't care), so we had to call and switch two of the three bills. I'm sorry, but this clearly tells me the server was not paying attention to our table. Even if he was stretched over too many tables, we still felt as though our service needs were not met. It's questionable as to whether or not we'll go back.

The northside of Chicago has been steadily making head way towards what could potentially be the best place to live, shop and dine. One restaurant that I have made home to is the Broadway Cellars. I can always find something new on the wine list and menu. Food here is affordable and high quality. Appetizers include american artisinal cheeses, pate, seafood sliders. The entrees range from american standards such as burgers and fries to their signiture duck lasagna. Specials can include skatewing, lamb chops, and the (OMG!) softshell crab po'boy. B.C. also hosts monthly wine dinners and wine tastings where you can hone your palet and meet new friends. I strongly support the Broadway Cellars in helping create fine tastes and good community on the northside.

I have been excited to try Broadway Cellars for some time, but after we did I really found the food to be lacking from the beginning of the meal to the end. First, the complimentary dish of olive oil served with the bread tasted less than fresh. Our appetizer- mushrooms in puff pastry with brie- was about 3 bites of pastry and not much else. My seafood risotto was....ok; the two huge scallops were tasty and cooked well, but the risotto itself was boring and needed salt. The portion of my companion's duck lasagna was definitely generous, but we couldn't taste much more than rosemary. For dessert we had the trio of pudding-- the creme brulee was the best dish of the night; the pots de creme could have been less sweet and more chocolate-y. And then there was the rice pudding. Texturally it was completely unappealing, somehow very thin yet lumpy at the same time, and the flavor was completely amiss. I wasn't able to get the first bite down. Our waiter was attentive and polite, but unprofessional in the way that he kept putting his hand on my date's shoulder as he spoke. We will not be back.

Nice variety on the menu, I had difficulty trying to decide if I should have breakfast or lunch. After ordering coffee, I decided it would be breakfast. A little coffeepot was brought and left on the table and filled quickly as it became empty. Very nice. My choice was The Personal Trainer. Scrambled egg whites, sundried tomato, goat cheese and basil. Rather than potatoes, cucumber salad is served with it. Yumm! I am not health minded but really loved the meal. Nice flavors to make up for no egg yolk. We had a MINOR problem with one of the meals. The manager immediately fixed it and made sure that we were happy. Kudos! Lastly we had chocolate cake. Very chocolately and tasty. Be sure to share it as it is so rich. Maybe I will see you there next time. I know that I will be back!

Despite reviews to the contrary, our service was excellent. We felt welcomed and valued as customers. Our server even brought us complementary glasses of wine with dessert, welcoming us to this neighborhood dining establishment. The food was outstanding and very reasonably priced. We have been Edgewater residents for 5 years now and are kicking ourselves for not going to Broadway Cellars earlier.

I was in town to visit a friend and attend a seminar. We had dinner here late on a Friday night. The food was great - the short ribs were delicious. The prices were very reasonable. Definitely will come back next time I'm in the city.

Came back a second time a few days later on a different day but with a couple of friends. There was a small wait, but the host remembered me/my name from my first time in and gave us a table really quickly.
We tried the crabcakes and the mussels for appetizers. I've had mussels at Hopleaf befofe but they were'nt as good as these. The mussels were fresh and in a giant broth of coconut broth with spices. We had to ask the busboy to bring us more bread to soak up all that good stuff! Crabcakes get easily over breaded... not here! Came with a red pepper sauce and green salad.
Found out that u can order byo flights (build your own) off the menu. Helps when you want a bottle but not sure what.. We choose a Spanish temprinillo to go with our entrees.
I had the skirt steak with artichoke, my pose had the duck lasagna, a pasta special and ahi tuna w linguine red sauce. We still needed more bread.
Dessert was offered by our server but declined (there was no more room!) but they brought us some after dinner sparking wine (free!). Had to be wheeled out.
So glad I found this place as it is a new favorite among many.

Living in Andersonville/Edgewater it's easy to find restaurants. I came home on the red line (Thorndale) to grab a bite. Found Broadway Cellars. Couple of friends had said really good things so why not. It looked white table cloth dining so i wasn't sure what to think but took a chance. Food was great. Bartendar was awesome. Definetly going back.

We didnt look at our watches when we got the salads, but we had been wondering why they were taking so long. Little did we know that was going to be the best part of the bad service. It took an hour and 5 minutes from the time we ordered until our entree showed up. That was after the waiter came by twice and said it was coming up.
I had the caesar salad and steak. My salad was drowned in dressing. Steak was fine, but nothing to write home about. Best part was dessert.
The only redeeming part of the experience was the wine, dessert and the fact that it was a prefix special for $20.

I'd heard that Broadway Cellars had good food but not to expect much from the service. The service part is definitely true. Three of us walked in for Sunday brunch a little after 11 a.m. We were the only table in the restaurant and there were just two tables on the patio. After we were seated and given menus, we sat there for another 10-15 minutes while servers and bus staff milled around the room, finished setting up tables near ours and generally going on about their business. Expect waiting on our table. No one had even offered coffee or other drinks. Taking our initial impression as a sign of further bad things to come, we got up and left. The host and our server seemed surprised, which just confirms we made the right decision to dine elsewhere.
