This is honestly the worst bar in Lincoln Park. The rude staff ruined the experience for me. On 3 seperate occasions I had a terrible time at McGee's. Even after the first time I was embarassed at the door when I am well over 21, I decided to go back and give them the benefit of the doubt. Again I was harassed at the door with a group of friends because we had matching T-Shirts on. Don't support bars that don't put their patrons first, and will embarass you for the hell of it. There are tons of other bars to go to in the Lincoln Park area...stay away from McGee's. I don't believe the staff at McGee's is a reflection of the other bars in it's family (Wrightwood Tap, Duffy's, etc.).
Report This ReviewFriends and I used to come here regularly on Tuesdays for 10 cent wings, there would also be some pretty good drink specials as well on pitcher beers and 2 for 1 o'bombs. Well that is nothing but a faded memory now because all the specials have disappeared, other than the 10 cent wings, there no longer any decent drink specials. In fact there are not even anymore pitchers. I understand liqour prices tend to be high and it's no problem, but when I'm out with friends having wings and a few beers, I really don't want to anticipate on spending $40-$50 for drinking just Miller Lite and I've had no more tha 3-4 beers and I'm only spending a $1 on wings... sooo do the math. Does this place have new owners? What happened to all the decent drink specials??
Report This ReviewI went here on a Monday and they have a $1 hamburger special. At first, I thought I was going to get a tiny burger, but I got a full sized burger (actually cooked to medium as I had ordered it too!). It was a very good burger, especially for the price! They charged an extra 60 cents for cheese, but whatever. The thing that made me mad was they charged 50 cents for my little cup of mayo that I requested! But considering I paid a buck for the burger, it was fine. Draft beers were also on special for 3 bucks. I'll definitely come back for more burgers!
Report This ReviewMcGee's always has the most obnoxious customers, rudest bartenders, and slowest servers. I do not recommend anything about this place...go to STATE across the street for a good time with a friendlier staff and good looking, fun patrons. Actucally go anywhere other than McGees
Report This ReviewIf you want to watch ANY Ohio State game, make sure you get there with plenty of time in advance, it alawys gets packed with Buckeye fans! Good service and bar food too - GO BUCKS!
Report This ReviewWow, walked in during an Ohio State game for my friends birthday party and didn't know it was OSU bar. It was packed wall to wall with OSU fans, who are perhaps the most arrogant sports fans in the NCAA. They gave us a great drink special for the party (Top shelf for cheap price); yet, the bartender complained if we ordered anything that involves a little effort (and we were tipping well).
Very crowded, small and hot (temperature)...no room to move at all. The DJ was packed into a small corner and was not open to requests. Oddly enough, all he played was rap for the first few hours which seemed strange since there wasn't anywhere to dance in front and everyone was sitting/standing and talking. We requested some rock and said maybe later, never happened even though several guys and girls made the same requests.
If you're an OSU fan/alum, this will probably be your favorite gameday bar; however, if you're not, I would try somewhere else. Especially during football season.
The food has gotten worse here over the years (it used to be good bar food), and there always seems to be people with an attitude problem. The place just seems dirty (floors, bars, tables, etc.). It used to be a Nebraska bar, but now I guess the owner went to Ohio State. I won't go back even though I live close.
Report This ReviewIf you're an Ohio State fan, it doesn't get better than McGees. It's scarlett and gray everywhere! Get your fill of OSU friends and fun on Saturdays for football season.
Report This ReviewThis place is horrible. The service is so bad. I waited for a drink for 25 minutes at the bar and it wasnt even that busy. I suggest you go somewhere else for football games that have hot girls and can get better service
Report This ReviewHow can you NOT love McGee's? You can't beat SUNDAY FUN DAY (after 2pm) and the overall atmosphere. I love to come here for brunch. The food is AMAZING for pub fare and by far the BEST Eggs Benedict in the city. Their "Phil's Steak and Eggs" is MOUTH watering. Food is HOT, beer is COLD! Go for special sporting events. You'll have a blast!
