Nacional 27: User Reviews
I liked the place. The food was a bit over priced. but the music was great. its a more classy place. recommended.

I always enjoy returning to Nacional 27 (though it’s an all-too-infrequent destination for me) for its dramatic, yet comfortable, ambience and it’s appealing pan-Latin menu. Tonight’s visit was a mixed bag. A mixed greens salad sounded intriguing, but was rather ho-hum. A fish special was OK, but lacked pizzazz. The highlight of our night was a roast suckling pig plate -- the decadent pork was bathed in a zesty BBQ sauce and served with tasty sides. Dessert, a rum-soaked cake, was flavorful, but would have been better had the cake been pre-soaked. Still, we enjoyed ourselves and I’ll look forward to my next annual visit.

I was at Nacional 27 this past weekend on a Friday night for dinner. This dining experience was the worst I've ever had in a downtown Chicago restaurant. We had reservations for 9:30 pm for a party of 8. We were all on time if not early and it took them 1hr to seat us. The hostess never came over to us to let us know why were seated so late nor was she remotely apologetic.
Finally, seated after 10 pm, we ordered the 4 course pre-set meal, all of us starving by now hoped at least an appetizer would have showed up promptly considering our wait, but it took them another 30 minutes for chips and guacamole!!! When our food finally came out and we were ready to brush everything off to enjoy our food but then music started BLARING at decibels that no human should have to withstand! On top of that, they started with the smoke machine and darkened the room where we couldn't see our food let alone enjoy it.
OVERALL, TERRIBLE!

Went to this restaurant this Saturday and the service was the worst ever. After being seated for 1 hour we were asked to move tables, but the other table was dirty and only had two stools, so two of us had to stand for about 1 hour. It took the waitress 1.5 hr to bring us our drinks and chips. We asked for the Manager several times and were told he is busy, but after several request from different employees to no avail, I found him myself and he informed me that no one asked him to see our table. Our waitress was the worst when we could find her and several other patrons were complaining too. The food was good, but not worth the nightmare. Could not get water or anything else we asked for. It took the waitress 45 minutes to bring us our bill and only after I had to hunt her down. I left 0 tip which I rarely ever do and a note stating "It was the worst service ever!" I will never go back there again.

OMG, I love this place. Went there on Saturday night and absolutely loved it. Started off with the appetizer platter, moved onto the beef tenderloin medallions, and ended with the flan. I had a mojito with watermelon bacardi. Everything was completely delicioso. I will be back soon. I love the ambiance, the only negative is that our server wasn't all that personable and seemed in a big hurry the whole time. However, for the food and atmosphere it isn't definitely worth it.

My girlfriends and I made reservations a few weeks ago and were sooo excited to try this place out. Everything here was fantastic. I started out with the signature platter for an appetizer...it was amazing...the mini taco (bbq'd lamb) was delicious and the shrimp was mouthwatering (I'd go back just for that skewered shrimp!)..I had the beef tenderloin medallions for my entree and haven't stopped thinking about it ever since. The meat was so juicy and tender and cooked perfectly. The spanish cheese potatoes that came with it was a perfect match. I had two of the mojitos both were delicious and left me pretty damn tipsy, and I'm a bit of a drinker. My friends ordered the Mahi Mahi (The baja catch of the day) and the Chicken Milenesa...both were tender and yummy but neither beat my tenderloins. Overall the food here was amazing, the service was ok...the place is dimly lit which I didn't like too much...the hostess came off a bit snoody which is a personal problem for her so I won't take it out on the restaurant. Our waiter also let us know that we could reenter the place once it converted to a "dance club" if we held onto our reciept. I'd love to return and hopefully will do so soon...I already have my meal picked out!!!

what a great restaurant to enjoy with your friends! my girlfriends and I will occassionally plan dinner together and we always end up at Nacional 27. great food, drinks, and service. I have never had a bad experience here and thats one of the things that makes me continue to return. If you're a drinker, do NOT leave until you have their pomegranate ginger mojito. it is absolutely amazing~! and if you're not a drinker... give it a try. it will turn you into a drinker. =P i am serious! The BBQ lamb tiny tacos are a MUST to order. ceviche is great. and i always order the beef tenderloin medallions. the meat is so tender and juicy. definitely a place to check out.

I have been coming here for years and have yet to be dissapointed. It is consistently one of the best dining experiences the city hs to offer. The food is excellent and the service is always top notch. Have no idea what the complaints about this not being Latin food are all about. This is Nuevo Latino at it's finest. If you are looking for a piece of pork and a plate of rice and beans with plantains for $6, this is NOT the place to go. If you are looking for inventive and delicious Latin food with a great ambiance, this is your place.

This place is your typical pretentious upscale restaurant with the same upscale restaurant annoyances. My complaints are simple...portions vs. price. Our appetizers were ridiculous. I got more food last time I went to Dominicks on sample Saturday...only the portions are bigger on sample Saturday. Yeah, I get that appetizers are suppose to be some kind of foo foo flavor medley and portion size is not important. Well that's garbage when you are paying $10 a pop. Needless to say I wanted to cry when I received my pathetic entree. I narrowly escaped starving to death by steeling off of my wife's plate. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about our "carafe" of wine. It was so small I thought someone had ordered us a shot.
Next time your supermodel friends are in town, take them to Nacional 27. All you real people in the mood for upscale Latin dining, check out Cafe 28 or Carnivale.
