Jon Young (of Kitsch'n fame) and his Volo chef-partner Stephen Dunne are behind this upscale bar/restaurant/late night-dining spot in River West. "I don't want to paint a picture of it as a straight gastropub," say Young. "We don't want to pigeonhole ourselves." So what's a better way to describe it? "If you took Volo and put the emphasis on beer instead of wine," he says. In addition, the bar features high-end spirits, small-batch whiskeys, and special emphasis on Belgian ales. The menu offers traditional English pub fare with a gourmet makeover, plus internationally inflected entrees. Look for choices like Scotch eggs, hand-dipped fish and chips, oysters Rockefeller, ale-steamed mussels and a Berkshire pork shank. The two-story space features exposed brick walls, quirky artwork, a vintage-inspired bar and oversized deluxe "Barcelona-style" banquettes, plus there are four 47-inch LCD plasma TVs.
