Worst Service Ever

So I have been there once before for drinks and had reasearched the menu online so I figured why not pop in for a burger and a beer for a chill Friday night. As soon as I walk up there is a man being arrested outside the joint, he was completly trashed. This leads me to believe they dont know when to shut off their clients. After that drama subsided I decided to continue in for my burger craving. I sat for fifteen minutes without a single server or bartender acknowleding my existence. I walked to the bar, it took another five minutes before anyone took my beverage order. I got a pitcher of Oberon which tasted dirty...after this whole mess my craving was no longer there. I will never be back...I saw at least 5 people on the staff 2 bartenders and servers and no one could help me? I walked to Riverview Tavern which has yet to fail me. Do not go to Village Tap unless you like to be ignored.

Nice place, but what gives...

Nice place, but what gives with the closing early thing? Two times in the past month I've stopped by after work and it has been closed at 12:30 AM. Is it becoming more of a restaurant than a bar? A bar stays open so people can drink, right?

Amen people! Please, parents, I implore you: LEAVE THE KIDS AT HOME. I love children and especially for that reason can't fathom why parents would want to take theirs to what is essentially a bar that also serves food. On a recent trip, I was horrified to see an entire brood of little boys with not much to do but sit around and watch their parents drink and smoke and have inappropriate (for children) conversation. But other than that, the Tap is always a good time and much better than average bar food. I mean, they have hummus for crying out loud! That deserves a lot of praise in my book.

This hole in the wall...
By Mike V from Chicago, IL, March 23, 2005

This hole in the wall has a nice beer garden in back that must be enjoyed when the weather allows. Bar service is very attentive, and the food from the somewhat limited menu is tasty. As has been previously mentioned, over the past few years this bar has begun to attract the yuppie parents set, and on more than one occasion I've had to eat lunch with kids whining or crying in my ear. What gives? Overall, a good choice for a hangout bar once the kids have been put to bed.

Overall pretty good service and food...the food was a little pricey for what I was served and the menu is quite limited. I agree with the comments about the kids...leave them at HOME!! And, same with the fat cigar smoker...go to a cigar bar, not the Village Tap! I was overwhelmed with cigar smoke while trying to enjoy my lunch with some friends. Great selection of beer and friendly staff. Tables are SMALL.

Have been coming here off...
By Notta Breeder from Chicago, IL, July 9, 2003

Have been coming here off & on for years. Great place. Good food. Pretty decent service. But, what's with all the CHILDREN? Village Tap is a TAVERN that happens to serve food. It is a bar. It is not an appropriate place for children/infants. Some of us go there to drink alcohol & smoke cigarettes. I for one am getting tired of being subjected to disdaining looks from parents while I am smoking OUTSIDE, AT A BAR. It is also annoying to be at a bar, outside, having to listen to a screaming child. Please, take it to a family restaurant.
