Village Tap

- Price range: $ (Under $9)
Once a hip neighborhood bar, Village Tap now draws hipsters from all quarters of the city and suburbs. One of the first bars to take microbrews seriously, the Tap has 26 draft beers, mostly small batch beer, though there is Leinenkugel for the less daring and samples for the indecisive. Food is a big seller too and the bar fare, which leans toward healthy Tex-Mex dishes but also includes falafel and hummus, greatly exceeds the average pub grub. To accommodate the crowds, the Tap's beer garden has a retractable awning. With the use of space heaters and the outdoor fireplace the "garden" is nearly seasonless, "unless the temperature goes below zero," says manager Evan Jones. Loud music and original art indoors.
