The menu boasts appetizers, salads and desserts, but let's face it: You go to Piece for pizza and beer. Oblong and in three offerings (red, plain and white), the thin, hand-padded pies (as opposed to tossed) are made the New Haven way. Toppings are used sparingly, with emphasis placed on the sauce and crust. Pizzas are treated with olive oil and oregano, and parmesan adds a slight saltiness. (Place take-out and delivery orders at neighboring Piece Out.) Skip the wine and cocktails and accompany your meal with one of Piece's seven homemade beers. The award-winning brews bedazzle the nostrils as much as they charm the taste buds; sealed 64-ounce glass growlers allow beer buffs to take their favorite concoctions home. The striking interior features skylights, arching wood beams and enough room to store your private jet. The party pit--positioned right in front of windows that open onto North Avenue in warmer weather--is great for large groups and celebrations. Televisions dominate the crescent shaped bar so you can keep tabs on the score; Thursday's karaoke and Saturday's live-band karaoke night are also big draws.
