Cheap Eats: Handlebar

This mostly vegetarian (no farm, no fowl) Wicker Park restaurant serves up bar food with international flavor and offbeat bicycle-themed atmosphere. The space that was once La Cumbamba sports colorful mosaic tiles and furniture made from recycled bicycle parts: bar stools are reclaimed rubber tires. Diners can opt for the blackened catfish, barbecued seitan (wheat meat) sandwich, black bean maduro or one of the daily specials. Eclectic dessert fare includes, most notably, fry pies, hand-made mini pies stuffed with fillings such as bourbon-pecan or apple.
