Goose Island Brewpub: User Reviews
I agree with Gisela in her review. The beer is great (closest thing Chicago has to a real brewpub) but the service is terrible and the food is even worse.
Report This ReviewBeen here a few times in the last few years, and I like the atmosphere and the beer selection is great. However, the food was always a bit bland in the past, and I usually only go for the beer. But this weekend I decided to take a look at the very limited food menu.
There is very little selection as far as the food goes with a few of the typical pub favorites. I ordered a burger and so did my date. The burgers were terrible. I could not even eat mine and my date stopped eating after a few bites. I complained to the waitress, who was very nice, but she could not do anything. So I wound up paying $30 for the two uneaten burgers.
I will never order food here again and with so many choices for dining in Chicago I discourage anybody from even trying this place.
Report This ReviewWe opted to take the tour...which, at $5, was a steal. You get a bunch of different beers, a nifty tour and explanation of how beer is made, and a collector's pint glass to take home. After the tour, you can try some pretty wild concoctions at the bar. If you're serious about beer, there are some great choices not available any where else. Debbie's Little Helper is GREAT, but even the regular Honker's Ale is fabulous since it's so fresh. The food isn't bad, but that's probably not why you're there...
Report This ReviewThe new menu is great just give it a try. How hard is it to see that the wait staff just wants to have a good time and if you did want to moan at them for things out of their hands you would see they are having a good time. Perhaps you "regulars" should understand change is good and see they are changing. Get over the price of beer! You are willing to go to some crappy irish sports bar and pay the same for a pint of stale miller light, come on Goose Island has one of the BEST brewers in North America - Will is amazing. Come on!
Report This ReviewI went last week and they changed their menu to have more "substance". They got rid of a lot of our favorites. The menu is now only one page. Gone is the brew pub fare they used to claim. So sad now. I enjoyed their good food to go along with the exceptional beer...
Report This ReviewAs a person who used tho be a regular at this place it has totally gone down the tubes. The waitstaff is HORRIBLE and RUDE, the food is just awful now. Better at McDonald's and the beer is overpriced considering they brew their own beer??? I used to love going here but this place is such crap now. My 46$ would have been better spent elsewhere, I will never return.
Report This ReviewExceptionally great beer. For those that say it is too warm, stay at home and have a Coors Light. The beer is served at the correct (and brewer approved) temperature. When beer is ice cold, you can't taste it--and if you like your beer ice cold, you don't like or understand beer. Food is above average, but getting better. Worth a visit just for the nachos or Stilton Burger. Service is allright--depends on who you get. There are some hidden gems that LOVE to help you and discuss the craft brew. When it is bad service, it is due mainly to being busy or overwhelmed, just like every restaurant. Place blame on poor management, not the overworked servers. Overall, great place.
Report This ReviewThe Garlic Stilton burger is worth the visit. Fantastic beer selection. Service can be a bit shakey
Report This ReviewGoose Island might be alright if you were a tourist and like crappy bars? This place does not have much to offer besides overpriced beer and an atmosphere to match. the place sucks... a lot
Report This ReviewI have been to Goose Island many times and always find the servers very frienly and knowledgable. They are happy to acomadate a special request. I think I have tried most items on the menu and found everything exelent. The best values are the best burgers in town with the homemade chips or my favorite onion strings. The berr is GREAT with a wide variety. Ask about the specialty beers like the Reserve or the Barrel Aged Beers. The IPA is always refreshing.
