Charlie's Ale House
- Neighborhood: Streeterville
- 600 E. Grand Ave.
- Chicago, IL 60611
- 312-595-1440
- Price range: $$ ($9-$15)
The symbol for Charlie's Ale House is a backwards clock--all the numbers are facing the wrong way. It's not an error in sign painting; it's intentional, to remind folks of times past, when the pace was slower and the community a bit more closely knit. Many a crazed Navy Pier shopper will find Charlie's Ale House a perfect spot to unwind, and Chicago visitors will appreciate the authentic, vintage neighborhood pub feel of the place. The huge, handcarved bar is the room's showpiece, done in the same dark wood used throughout the room. Photos of the old Navy Pier under construction give a bit of instant history as well. There are more than 15 tap and 40 bottled beer selections available, and a fine selection of single malt Scotches. The menu is full of traditional favorites--meatloaf, chicken pot pie and the like.

A welcome addition to Andersonville. Great meatloaf. Excellent beer selection. Comfortable and unpretentious.
