One typically blustery Chicago winter afternoon we had time to kill before and appointment and needed a hot bowl of soup! On a coin-flip we decided to walk into the Blue Frog and see what might await. OMGolly....what a great choice.
Yes...I agree with the reviewer who likened Blue Frog to a dive or a "bingo hall"...it's "retro"...but it's REAL retro, not schtick.
In the middle of the afternoon we were the only diners left, tand when the mgr/owner?/server recommended their chowder, who was I to argue? Folks, NEVER has a bowl of soup inspired me to draft a review. Understand?
My wife had some chicken sandwich I think, I really don't remember..for me, it was all about the soup.
Go try the Blug Frog. Leave your pretentions at home...just come in for great food, served with the best of intentions.
Report This ReviewWe had an awesome time at the Blue Frog last Thursday night. The beer is cheap and everyone there has a blast. I witnessed the best karaoke rendition of The B52's 'Loveshack' in the history of man by some guy that looked like an Indian Sammy Davis Jr. The Board games are fantastic. I highly recommend 'Don't Break the Ice'. If you order the jalepeno poppers, let them cool for at least a half hour, otherwise you won't taste anything for a week and you could permanently scar your flesh.
Report This ReviewI love Blue Frog, mostly for the crazy karaoke that occurs there on the weekends but also for the one thing that will keep me going back until some big corporation buys up the land, The Island Swine. A fruity, refreshing drink to remind you that even though it's 10 below and probably snowing outside inside is a little piece of the Caribbean. One more plus, they have Tater Tots, enough said.
Report This ReviewSaw all the good reviews and it sounded like fun. I was shocked when I actually got there - the decor of this place resembles a bingo hall in the 80s or something. It was SO bad, we didn't even stay for a drink. It was small and dark with no windows and nothing redeeming. HopHaus down the block is better if you want something low key.
Report This ReviewKaraoke was a blast! They have free parking too and NO cover charge. You cant beat that. Best of all, the burgers were great and the prices were low. All in all a super hangout and wonderful value. Friendly staff too, even as busy as they were.
Report This ReviewCheap beer, great staff, I cannot describe effectively the affinity I have for the Blue Frog. This is my favorite bar in Chicago. My friends and I are made to feel at home every time we go. The Saturday night staff makes my otherwise dull life worth living. Thanks to Mary, Virgil, and the gang.
Report This ReviewI came back from the dead because the Blue Frog Rocks! The Karaoke host, Uncle Paul has got to be the best in the world. He's a better singer than I ever was. John, Mimi, Joe, Mary Mac, Virgil, Brad and Aaron are the best people on earth. You have to make to the Blue Frog before you die.
Report This ReviewI had never been to the Blue Frog before, but have wanted to try Karaoke and bring my unsuspecting friends in as well. The Blue Frog didn't disappoint!
When you come in, it doesn't look that impressive, even a little divey, but the staff and patrons are extremely friendly and welcoming. We arrived at 9pm on a Friday and got a great table and were immediately served drinks. We then saddled up for a board game which helped pass the time until Karaoke started.
The night's Karaoke started at 9:30 and the place was jumping by 10:30. The Karaoke was great! Great singers and even some bad ones, but everyone was having such a great time so who cared! Even my friends who were a little worried they wouldn't have any fun at the beginning of the night were totally singing every song by night's end.
Great place for having a lot of raucous fun with friends.
