Great selection of brews, always a special
By cdg2009 from Little Italy/University Village, July 12, 2009

The food is merely OK.
The service is merely OK.
The selection of beers is extensive and there is always a special price for a draft or a pitcher.
This is a neighborhood tavern, after-school, after-work, late night hang out---not a destination spot for food or atmosphere
With those limiitations, it's just fine.

Great beer selections, room for improvement
By VinoMan from west loop, May 8, 2008

Great draft beer selections. Knowledgable wait staff, but could be more attentive to the tables especially on a weeknight.

Surprised that there were no beer specials. Most west loop restaurants/bars offer some type of special during the week. Accordingly, I place the value at below average for a mid-week meal as their prices are toward the higher end for bar food.

Food was delived promptly and done correctly. The noise level was conversation friendly with the music and T.V. volume well under control.

Menu has some options beyond typical bar food. Overall experience was definately good enough for a return visit. If they would offer some mid-week specials, advise the wait staff to be more attentive, they would only improve the experience.

Been in the West Loop...

Been in the West Loop for about 9 years, within one block from Jak's Tap. Have been to Jak's Tap often over the years. It's a decent bar, and the menu and food is quite good, for most items. However, do not order food for delivery. Last night, the food was to be delivered within 45 min. It came over an hour later. I live only 1 block from Jak's. The food was cold, rubbery and tasteless by the time we received it. Very, very disappointing. I'm to the point of having no desire to hang out in their establishment. Just unacceptable. I paid $10 for my spinach quesadilla, which is quite good while dining in, but nasty, at best, when delivered cold and rubbery.

It's hard to give Jak's 3 stars when I give Marche 3 stars, but for what it is, a sports bar with 500 beers on tap, Jak's is the best! Going in is like arriving at a friend's house. The staff is friendly and knowledgable, the pork is great and the pizzas are surprising! Besides, anyone who serves 'pork chop on a stick' at Taste of Randolph is alright in my book!

I just moved into the West-loop a month ago and have no kitchen wares at all. So, having nothing to cook with I was ordering out almost every night, can you imagine? The places I tried were the usual run of the mill delivery establishments, not great, but will do. Then I discovered Jaks! I really don't subscribe to much to reviews but I thought fellow West-loopers need to know, this place has the best bbq ribs in the city. I've tried a ton of rib joints in the past, but Jaks has them licked, no pun intended. I'll keep this quick, you have to try the RIBS! Also, I notice another fab thing about Jaks, it has a mongo draft beer selection that I'm definitely going to sample with my buds at some point.

I found this place via...

I found this place via a friend recomedation, this is a well rounded American bar & grill. It has it all, choice beer selection, fabulous eats, huge selection of beers and a juke box! Wow-wee! In the westloop, it's a must stop to eat & drink. Although, the talent in this place is lacking (staff) Need to hire better looking folks?

Looking for a place to...

Looking for a place to go before the Bulls game, I read a few reviews on this site. Unfortunately, a couple of places that I tried to go I wasn't able to get in. So I mosied over to Jaks. I was pleasantly suprised. The bartender was a really cool girl who seemed to really be on top of it. It was really busy and both bartenders were too, but even though we had to wait a bit, they both let us know that they would be right with us. We ended up having a great time, and they made sure we got to the game on time. The beer was great, and the food was a pleasant suprise.

By Shannon from Chicago, IL, January 15, 2007

You would think a bar/restaurant would be prepared to handle a crowd for a Bears playoff game. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I think they only had 2 or 3 waitresses working and it took close to 45 minutes to even get a waitress to take our drink order and then another hour before we ordered our food. We did not actually get our food until the third quarter of the game and by that point the food was cold. Honestly, the food was barely edible. Our waitress offered to buy our first round of drinks but they still ended up on the bill. This place could be a good sports bar if they had better food, service and TV's. Until then, my friends and I will not be going back.

I orderd delivery from here,...
By Frank from chicago, il, November 8, 2006

I orderd delivery from here, the waitress said it would take a little over an hour, well my food arrived after two hours. It wasn't cold, but I couldn't say that it was hot. The brisket sandwich was horrible. The sauce was not bad, but there is not way that it had been roasted even remotely close to the 12 hours they say they do on the menu. The meat was tough and chewy.

The other sandwiches we ordered were also bland, and barely warm.

If you're planning on getting food delivered don't waste your time. I can't speak for the sit-in part of the resturant, but I won't be finding out.

I live in River North but have gone to Jaks a few times for lunch since football season started (a few friends live over there). The bartender always turns on the Michigan game for us and he always helps me choose a beer. You can a sample any of there drafts. The food is really good. It can get a little pricey but I recommend the place.
