Neighborhood: Loop

The folks behind Brownstone Tavern & Grill, Schoolyard Tavern & Grill and Gaslight Bar & Grille have expanded their empire with Sidebar, which focuses on lunch and happy hour thanks to its Loop location. Fans of the group's three taverns should note this spot skews more towards dining, so don't expect cheap food and drink specials made popular at the other spots. The interior's Victorian-meets-urban, with stained concrete floors, raised platforms with table seating and Oriental rugs, a luxe Victorian mahogany bar with a backlit glass mosaic and Victorian light fixtures. The menu features faves from the other bar and grills, such as the "lollipop" lamb chops, crispy Rueben rolls and the yummy skillet cookie with caramel, chocolate and vanilla ice cream, but there are also heartier entrees for the dinner crowd and higher-end pub grub for the post-work noshers. By the way, the name comes from the legal term (O.J. Simpson trial, anyone?) -- there are several law firms in the area -- and because the rectangular spot flanks a side street (get it?). More news: They opened Sidebar Cafe (a coffee shop) in the same building.

Been here many times due to its convenience factor. Food is great but a bit pricey. Pricey too are the cocktails, and the pour could be better. ...
