I was really looking forward to eating at Hackney's last week with a large group of my wife's family. Since I really only care about food, I never review atmoshphere or service. In a word, the food is terrible. I ordered the "special" California burger, and if you got to Hack's you'll see on the menu it sounds delicious with chorizo and a couple different kinds of cheese; Wow, I had to ask the server if she brought me the right hamburger. I mean, it was tasteless! My sister-in-law sitting next to me had the "famous" hamburger....you've got to be kidding me! I'm not kidding, it compared to a McDonald's cheeseburger (but for $9 you'd expect more!) (and my burger was $11). Her husband had the BLT and was speechless at how bad it was, just bread with fatty bacon on it. The onion rings tasted of heavy, used vegetable oil (as did the fried chicken my wife got). I don't like giving bad reviews, but I was so disgusted when I left Hack's. I even waited a week before writing this just to see if I would have a different point of view, and I still say, Hackney's is (very expensive) terrible food.
Report This ReviewI have been going to Hackney's on Lake since I was young. Now having a family of my own I am always happy with our experience at Hackney's on Lake. The menu has kept the cherished favorites as well as adding in more updated and varied choices. The service is friendly and attentive. Even on a busy night, there are not unusually long wait times so that families with small children can have a relaxed meal.
Report This ReviewThe Hackney Burger, Rueben, French Dip are all favorites. My wife really likes their salads. The atmosphere is always comfortable and welcoming.
Report This ReviewOur family eats here every week. The burgers on dark rye are great and there is something for everyone. The service is really friendly and the drinks are generous.
Not many places like this left. Definitely worth a visit.
I must say this is probably the worst restaurant I have been to in the Chicagoland area. We stopped for the patio which was nice, but the food was tasteless and boring. I still don't know how you can make such a flavorless burger. I will never go back. How this place is still in business is a mystery. Stay away!!
Report This ReviewThe dark rye bread is fabulous but unfortunately cannot help the burger. The famous fried onion smells better than it tastes. Unfortunately the smoke from the cigarettes takes away from the "family friendly" atmosphere.
Report This ReviewSlow and very poor service . Average hamburgers and fries. Key lime pie should not be served warm. Will not return.
Report This ReviewThe truly disappointing service set the tone for the entire meal. For a great Hackey's experience it is difficult to beat Hackney's on Harms!!!
Report This ReviewFew restaurants are as personable as this one. They make you feel very welcome. Their outdoor patio rocks.
Report This ReviewWhat a disappointment for a burger place that was close to the top in the Trib Burger Derby. The burgers were dry and tasteless. Service was poor: waitress abandoned us, orders mixed up among our party, items on plate were missing. At $8 not a good value. Plus side was the onion loaf and the chicken tenders. Try Michaels in HP or Fuddruckers for a better burger.
