Four Moon Tavern

I've been to this place a few times in the last 2 - 3 years, and had decent experiences, but after last night, I, and the three others I was with, would never go back. We went there around 8pm to eat, and since there weren't any tables open, told the server that we would wait for a table. After about an hour and a half of drinking at the bar, a nearby table let us know that they were getting ready to leave. We started to move over to it, but the SAME server stopped us very rudely and said that table had been promised to a couple that had just walked in and she had "forgotten that we were waiting for a table". Since she wouldn't let us sit at that table, and nothing else was close to opening up, we left. I told the bartender who seemed to be a manager or owner exactly why we were leaving, and we got a "Oh, we didnt know you guys wanted to eat here." We had ordered plenty of drinks and an appetizer at the bar, and now I'm really sorry we gave our money to that place.
As honest-to-goodness 'Sconnie' natives, the idea of this being a friendly Wisconsin bar is pretty tough to take. We've enjoyed 4 Moon many times in the last two years of livin' in Chi-Town not more than 5 blocks away.
However, tonight we waited for a table (paying cash and drinking for 4) patiently - playing pool, enjoying company, watching others get seated, etc. After more than 90 minutes at the bar, I asked a couple leaving if we could inherit their hi-top. As they left, we moved over, but were quickly told by a wonderfully rude waitstaff that the table was at the discretion of the servers. Our table would be ready in the next 30 minutes or so.
It was a bummer. While we finished our drinks, the waitstaff seemed oblivious to our dissapointment and patronage. We felt as though 4 Moon has enough patrons. Our interest and cash came unwelcome.
BAD VIBES & LOUSEY SERVICE - neighbors not coming back.
Report This ReviewForget waiting an hour for brunch. We stopped by this seemingly hole-in-the-wall joint for a quick brunch and haven't stopped raving about it since. The french toast is to die for and the biscuits and gravy truly take you down home. Although not the best ambiance, its a bar! Don't miss out on this well priced, mouth watering grub
Report This ReviewMy husband and I have been coming here for years, and we still make the trip even though we are not in the city anymore. Great bar food, and has that cozy, small town Wisconsin bar kind of feel. I can't get past the nachos...they are the best! One of my favorite places in the city by far.
Report This ReviewWe arrived to escape the 100 degree heat of 7/30/06. Steve the bartender was friendly and we stayed to watch the Cubs. The Crabcake Benedict was excellent as were the Bloody Marys. We will stop back next year when we do our annual pilgrimage to the City.
Report This ReviewGreat neighborhood bar! They have your typical bar food but so much better! They use fresh ingredients and seem to actually care how the food turns out. I highly recommend the tomato soup, grilled cheese, nachos (so many yummy toppings that I always run out of chips - opt for no chicken), and the fish and chips. Also it's a great place for brunch - almost never a wait. You have to try the crab stacks - homemade and out of this world! Only down-sides are the smoke and that the waitstaff loves to hang out (friendly but less attentive then some may like).
Report This ReviewGoing to this place is a must! The food is great, the people are great, the atmosphere is great! If you want a guranteed good time make sure you stop here. The burgers and onion rings are some of the best in all of Chicago. One of nice things about this place is that you can rent it out for private parties. It is reasonably priced and an amazing restaurant and bar. WhenI left the four moon tavern I knew that I would come back again and with my friends. If you are looking for good food, drinks, and a good time try this place!
Report This ReviewI went to Four Moons after reading the good reviews on Metromix. When I walked into the bar, it was filled with smoke - more so than the typical bar. The waitress was ok, although she was more interested in hanging out with her friends at the bar. Food was good for bar food. Not cheap, but reasonable.
Report This ReviewI almost don't want to write what I really think of Four Moon because I don't want it to become overcrowded. The food is unbelievable. Their homemade tomatoe soup is by far the best I have ever eaten, and they have great beers on tap. Steve, the owner, always makes you feel welcome....especially at brunch after a rough night by handing over an ever so needed bloody.
