a sweet spot

I went with a bunch of girlfriends on a Saturday night. We had all the cake varieties offered, carrot, yellow, caramel, and red velvet. We were served quickly. I like the atmosphere and absence of alcohol. The cake was delicious and the slices are large so we all took some home. And it was still moist and great the next day. I have to go back and try something else.

I would have to agree with other people; the cakes at Caroline Caramel tend to be a little dry. They taste good but they are not extaordinary. My main problem is the price. The cakes, most of them cost about $5, are not that expensive but they are pricey as is their ice cream. I paid about $9 for a piece of cake and a scoop of ice cream. The place has a lounge vibe with the dark tones and the accents of blue around the room. Not a bad spot but they should really reconsider their prices.

The cakes here a devine! The cake is delicious and moist--the frosting and delicious and subtle--not too sweet like most other places. Yum!

Definitely needs a little sprucing up around the register, plus need a better & quicker system of cutting the cake and boxing up. Also - cake tastes better if you get there early. Arrive late, and those cakes have been sitting for a while and aren't that moist. The counter guy is beyond nice, though, and I hope he succeeds by making a few tweaks.

This place is really different...

This place is really different and a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. My husband and I had the carrot cake and a slice of key lime pie. We should have just stuck with the carrot cake because it was a huge slice and soooo good. Very moist which is often not the case at even the best restaurants - the main reason the cream cheese frosting is often so abundant. This cake could have stood on its own without the frosting but, of course, it was doubly as good with it. Skip the key lime pie - a little too "jelly like" - but I can't wait to try the other cakes soon!

The other reviewers are absolutely correct that service is friendly and genuine. I have to disagree though, with the quality of the cakes. We ordered the double chocolate cupcake and the yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Neither was notably dry or poor tasting, but by the same token, they weren't notably moist or tasty. The cake in particular could have come from a box. Choices were few and basic (no creativity) and I was a bit turned off by the set up (cashier and service counter shared the same space with beverage fridge in plain view)...needs a little sprucing up. I'd return for the friendly welcome and kind service, but for $5.75 a slice, I'll bake my own cake.

This place rocks. First off, the deserts are excellent. Next, a cool mix of music that is not too loud or too soft, just right. Finally, the lack of smoke and alcohol allow people of all ages to enjoy the cool and cozy atmosphere. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

My wife and I both went to Carolina Caramel on a Saturday night at about 9:45. I had a piece of their caramel cake and she had a piece of red velvet cake. The cake was EXCELLENT and on top of that the service was great. The people were really nice and accomodating. The atmoshpere was very laid back and a great place to unwind without getting loaded. The DJ was spinning mellow hip-hop tunes which only added to the already swank relaxed atmoshphere. People starting coming in around 10:00 and was slowly filling up by the time we left at about 10:30. There's no alcohol but they have coffee and milk (great with the cake). The people were great and were very open to suggestions (like getting some skim milk). They also do special order cakes at reasonable prices. Overall, I found myself a great little dessert place!

I'm a police officer at the station down the street and my partner and I are in LOVE with this place. Rashid and his Aunt are always super friendly and going there for a cupcake break is always a treat!! Carolina Caramel makes me say "Dunkin Donuts... who?"
