Agave Bar & Grill: User Reviews

We have been to Agave many times and the margaritas, food and service are usually very good. But, our experience on Friday 8/29 was very poor.
My wife's entrée (skewered pork) was inedible. The meat had a strange grainy consistency like it had been over-marinated or over-cooked (or both). We complained to both the waiter and the manager. The manager tried to justify the meat saying that the kitchen overcooks this style of pork intentionally. Not only did they try to “justify” the meat, but they didn’t even offer a credit to make up for the poor meal.
I completely understand that some restaurants can have an off night. Well-run establishments realize this and make the appropriate amends if something is wrong. Insulting your customer’s intelligence and not doing anything about an off meal is not the hallmark of a well-run place that respects their clientele.
I really liked this restaurant, but I will have a hard time going back after this type of treatment.

We love Agave!!! Mostly because it reminds us of Puerto Vallarta. We once trailed off the beaten path in P.V. and found a really great place to eat. We were the only ones in the place and thought it was a mistake, but the food was AWESOME. That is how Agave is. There may or may not be a crowd but the food and drinks...and service reminds us of Authentic Mexico. Yum....I can't wait to go back. The only think missing is the mariachi.

Agave was fantastic. From the margaritas to the made-to-order guacamole to the delicious and beautiful entrees. Plus, the decor was lovely.
In response to others saying it was empty, we were there on a Friday night and it was packed.
We only had one complaint: We were there while they were celebrating and they had a mariachi band. The band was great, but it was WAY too loud. It was so loud that we literally had to stop talking at our table and it became very frustrating. Primarily, it was the trumpet that was a featured part of every song. Beyond not allowing us to speak, it was very jarring. I would hope that a restaurant would take into account the fact that diners come to get together with friends--not great hospitality at all. They should at least vary the sound level.
We will definitely be back--just never again around Cinco de Mayo.

This is one of, if not the best, Mexican restaurants in the city. I have been to Agave for weekday and weekend dinners, as well as weekend brunch. The space feels very upscale, with attention to detail at the bar, tables, chairs, artwork, lighting stairway, etc. Someone really spent a lot of time, attention and TLC in putting this place together. More importantly, that same attention to detail in put in the food, drinks, and service. My only hesitation in writing this review is that more people will discover Agave and it will become crowded. Truly a hidden jem.

Not only are the dinners wonderful, the fresh drinks delicious and staff knowledgeable and friendly, but you HAVE to try their brunch!! It's reasonably priced and everything my husband and I have tried (which is a lot) on the brunch menu has been delicious!!!!

This place ranks right up with Adobo, Salpicion, Frontera, (even the old Chilpancingo). Great decor, fantastic drinks and food. In two visits, we also enjoyed excellent service. You will not be disappointed.

The restaurant was only moderately full on a cold and blustery Saturday night, but the drinks and food warmed our spirits and pleased our palates. The tequila samplers were fun and the margaritas were top notch. The gaspacho appetizer was out of this world! The tenderloin tips and jumbo shrimp were flavorful and more than enough for two. Our server was helpful, courteous, and well-versed. It was our first visit to Agave and we are sure to go back.

We just happen to be walking on Lincoln and stumbled upon this place; needless to say, it was perfect! Not only do they have a fabulous drink and dinner menu, but the atmosphere was incredible. We had a huge group of people and the waiter and bus boys were always ahead of the game. The manager was pleasant as well. I highly recommend the Agave Bar and Grill for any occasion whether it's a night out on the town, or just a middle of the week drink. This place is a winner!

For those of you missing the old Platiyo (which failed after miserable new ownership ruined the place), try Agave. We really liked the feature agave margarita, shared a good guacamole appetizer, and I had a tasty flank steak entree for my main course. We look forward to going again. I was surprised the place wasn't busier on a Friday night, but not sure why that should impact a review of this place.

This place is well maintained, I guess its because there is no customers. I was at Agave on Thrusday night and the place was empty. Not sure why It took so long to get notices. My drinks where tasty and the food was a bit over cooked. and over priced. The best part of the night was when I got the bill and went home.
