Great snacks

The daddy has some of the better snacks I've had in the city. The chicken wings are the best wings I've ever had. Regardless of the other reviews say, I've been to the daddy 5-6 times with large groups and everyone has always enjoyed all of there meals. Great food.

Had the daddy platter with spareribs, pulled pork, and sliced brisket. Beans and coleslaw on the side. Sweet tea to drink, skillet cookie for dessert. The ribs were either a little overcooked or they had been boiled prior to going into the smoker. The meat had gotten a bit mushy, and lost a lot of pork flavor (typical sign of boiling, a.k.a. cheating). Smoke flavor was very mild, bark a little chewy, hard to find a smoke ring. Spice rub tasted good, strong and not overpowering. Overall the pork ribs were good by Chicago standards. The beef brisket was overcooked and dry. It had lost its texture and basically tasted like pot roast. The pulled pork was just a touch overcooked, probably from sitting under a warming light. It still had enough moisture, and the flavor was pretty good too. Very little smoke, and way over-sauced. Texture was still good, seeing larger chunks of muscle rather than shredded strings everywhere. Being a bit overcooked, the stringiness was starting to appear. Beans tasted great. Good sweetness, good bite, bits of meat mixed in. A little heavy on the liquid smoke but not a big deal. Coleslaw had a pleasant light creaminess, otherwise forgettable. Skillet cookie was very nice. Lots of chocolate/caramel sauce and chocolate chunks. The atmosphere was very comfortable, love the music, service was fine. Overall, Smoke Daddy is a good all-around BBQ place, and outstanding by Chicago standards. No stand-out dishes, but at least nothing abominable like most Chicago BBQ places. I'd probably recommend it to friends.

Love the food, but how many times do I have to ask for no onions on something. The past 10 times I've gone or ordered from here they forget something or don't hear a request. Listen, listen, I'll love you that much more. :)

Sad to say...

Used to go here quite a bit. The food was good most of the time, just somewhat dry sometimes, and the sides are fantastic. They recently took Blue Moon totally out, so I won't be going any longer. What ever they got for taking it out, won't make up for my lost business.

Delicious BBQ

I was surprised by some of the comments on here saying that the pork had a bad aftertaste and the ribs were dry. Me and three of my friends got everything we could from there from pork, ribs, beef, chicken, mac and cheese, sweet potatoes...okay, you get the point.

We got take out, so I can't comment on the restaurant itself, just the food. The food was exactly what I wanted: great southern BBQ that I have missed for a long time. The jalepeno cornbread was especially delicious, as was the spicy BBQ sauce. Out of all the meats, I'd probably recommend the pulled pork, but you really can't go wrong with the other choices. I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit to Smoke Daddy's.

I used to love this place. It was my favorite BBQ place period. That being said I was really surprised when I went in for lunch the other day. The pulled pork was almost inedible. I don't know if it was left in the smoker during the renovation or what, but it was like eating bad beef jerky in BBQ sauce. The sauce is also not what it used to be. Very little flavor. I also didn't like the fact that they went away from the fresh cut fries. I gave two stars for the coleslaw, which was on of the best I've ever had, and the service. My waitress did a great job and was very attentive. It's sad to see a place that was once so good fall so low.

my rib dinner

My wife and I went to ckeck this place out on Saturday night. The wait was 45 minutes so we ate at the bar. I ordered a sampler platter and a pulled pork sandwich. The ribs were dried and did not have flavor. both the St. Louis and baby back were not that great. The pulled pork had this awfull aftertaste. The sevice was good and the patrons were very friendly. probably the best rib place on that street though.

Sorry I didn't find it earlier

I heard about Smoke Daddy from a friend who used to live in the area and decided to try it with my boyfriend one day. We were a little skeptical from the VERY laid back atmosphere and loud music, but the food beat any BBQ I have had in the city. I lived in TN for 8 years and have not had something comparable to Memphis style BBQ since then. I love the Mac and Cheese side!!! It was also nice to have a selection of 3 sauces to try since we both have different tastes in bbq sauce. I had the half rack of ribs and my bf had the pulled pork sandwich, both of which were awesome. I loved the carmelized sauce on the ribs and the juices that were sealed in. Great place and going back often!
