LOVED IT!!!

I went there this weekend with some friends and we had a great dinner. The food was better than expected, our server was great and I loved the atmosphere. It is a very cool place, you can tell a lot of thought went into this place. I decided to come back with my family for Sunday Brunch - they had live music and a great brunch menu. I thought this place was a great place to come with friends and family as well. I will absolutely recommend this place to others!

Be prepared to wait.

Just went to Bungalow for the first time on a Wednesday evening. Great atmosphere but really poor service. After waiting for 15 minutes I went to the bar and placed our drink order. The bar tender gave an apology and sent a server to our table. Our server was clearly put out. No apology offered. Just drinks and our check. End of evening.

As someone who works with the public on a daily basis, I find an apology and a smile will go a long way. We won't be returning to The Bungalow.

Great.... location!

This is a great building in a great location, but it has an identity crisis. This is another of those places that can't make up its mind whether it's a restaurant or a bar. This is sorta both, but I think the bar scene wins out.

The decor is very bland and doesn't do justice to the cool rehabbed bungalow. TV's are haphazardly hung on the walls, and the interior just doesn't deliver on the personality and atmosphere that the exterior promises.

The food is OK... even good... for a bar. But there are a lot of excellent restaurant choices in the neighborhood. I'd have to view this place as an watering hole with advanced bar food.

Let's talk about the food...

B/c why else would you go to a restaurant? Unless of course, you are one of the trendy SoHo types who thinks this is the "in" place b/c it is quaint and new and hip...but I went to try the FOOD at this RESTAURANT and truly, it is plain. Shall I go down the list of my date's meal and mine?? Conch fritter appetizer - ok, spicy to the point of excess, but ok. Fish and Chips Dinner - excellent batter for the cod but the fries were blandly seasoned and soggy. Coconut Curry Shrimp Dinner - the sauce for the shrimp seemed to be taken from a bottle instead of homemade, too sweet and not much depth in flavor. Seasoned veggies side - good. Actually, the best thing on my plate - grilled and then drizzled with a balsamic reduction. Mac n Cheese side - horrible! I can understand they they want to "class" it up a bit with European cheeses but it made for a grainy, chalk-like consistency. Tropical coleslaw side - Slightly on the dry side and not mayo based but a nice twist on a traditional dish. Yucca Fries side - if you like yucca, you will like these fries otherwise, stay away. All in all, it was not worth the $60 price tag. If you want a similar scene and MUCH better food - try Mad Dog & Englishmen on South MacDill.

Great atmosphere!

I went there for drinks with friends on a Saturday night. The inside looks like the inside of a cabin, really warm feeling! And it was decorated with Christmas lights and holiday stuff. And the outside deck had heaters and Christmas lights everywhere. I loved it. Really cozy and comfortable. A great place to hang with friends! I would defintely go back to try their food!

I went there for the first time this weekend and had a great dinner. It does become quite a bar scene on the weekends. Nice atmosphere and good food. Soho is moving north!
