The Evanston History Center is located in the Charles Gates Dawes House, built in 1895 and reflecting the era when Dawes, Vice President of the United States under Calvin Coolidge, lived here. The lifestyle of a wealthy Evanstonian is substantially recreated, and exhibit galleries of the house focus on local history and issues such as race, the women's movement, the environment, and the progressive intellectual climate of Evanston through the decades. A research room is open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday and 1-4 p.m. Thursday and Saturday.
