Hoypoloi is a store that combines the ordinary and the mystical. While objects such as lamps and paperweights are essentially housewares and furnishings, the designs of these objects give them an extra artistic quality. Some of the paperweights are inscribed with inspirational words such as 'believe.' One of the exotic star-shaped lamps for sale recently was featured in the movie 'Waiting to Exhale.' Other objects, like the Zen board on which your words are etched and then erased, serve no real utilitarian purpose except to relax the mind. "Here with this Zen board you can create a masterpiece, but don't try to," said owner Roy Hoy. The wind chimes, named for Pacific islands, play melodies that evoke images of the isles themselves.
