Tours of the home and studio designed and inhabited by architect Wright from 1889 to 1909 show how his family, his house and his conception of architecture grew in the 20 years that he lived here. Now managed by the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust, this is one of the most interesting house-museums anywhere. Visitors can witness Wright's modern use of flowing space, how light is as important to his architecture as walls and doors, and the moods that he could create with space, color and materials. Perhaps the most spectacular part of the house is the children's playroom, with its great arched ceiling, balcony and leaded-glass windows in the treetops. The many details of the house -- furniture, Japanese prints, art glass and meticulously reconstructed office -- provide a true idea of what was important to the architect, which was just about everything.
